One month later: How the diverging diamond on 41st Street is working - Dakota News Now 08/02/2024

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - It has now officially been one month since the completion of the diverging diamond that was supposed to improve the lives of residents by reducing travel time. We checked in with project organizers and travelers to see how things have been moving.

The SDDOT DDI project in Rapid City won the 2024 America's Transportation Award for Best Use of Technology and Innovation. The Department of Transportation says prior to the rally, they will be taking extra precautions for travelers.
“There will be things that we will have in place. There will be about a mile and a half of gravel, and we’re gonna treat that with a magnesium chloride which will hold down the dust, it will hold the gravel together a little bit better. So there are some precautions on that type of surface,” Region Operations Engineer Tom Horan said.

The simple rule is that drivers yield to the vehicles already in the roundabout, and they allow drivers to keep moving through the intersection.
