Sioux Falls celebrates opening of second diverging diamond interchange - The Brookings Register 10/28/2024

South Dakota Department of Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt and Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken were joined by federal, state, and local leaders to highlight the opening of the Interstate 229 and Benson Road Diverging Diamond Interchange in Sioux Falls on Friday.
The interchange is now functioning in each direction as a one-lane DDI. Additional lanes of traffic through the interchange will be open before the entire project is completed in June 2025.

City and state leaders gathered Friday to celebrate the opening of the Interstate 229 and Benson Road Diverging Diamond.
The ribbon cutting was held at 10:00 am in the parking lot of the Sanford Business Center.

There’s another diverging diamond interchange in Sioux Falls. The first one in the city was built at 41st Street and I-29. Now, drivers using Benson Road and I-229 are navigating a diverging diamond.

Chris Voelker was warming up for the cold months behind the wheel of a plow truck on Thursday. Voelker is a lead highway maintenance worker for the South Dakota Department of Transportation. He competed in the DOT’s Snowfighter ‘Roadeo’ in Sioux Falls, which included a driving course.
