S.D. Highway 46 through Wagner
Project Summary:
This project will consist of grading, surfacing, curb & gutter, sidewalk, lighting, signals, sanitary sewer, and water main. Crews will be regrading S.D. Highway 46 through Wagner with a three-lane section east of Washington Avenue and a five-lane section west of Washington Avenue. New lighting and sidewalks will be added through town along with crosswalks with flashing beacons that will improve safety for pedestrians. During the project, the City of Wagner is also installing new sanitary sewer and water main to upgrade their existing systems to ensure future reliability.

Project Updates:
May 20, 2026:
Anticipated work from May 15, 2026, to June 15, 2026: The contractor will continue infrastructure improvements, including pipe installation, grading, and paving. Work will progress from east to west on the south side of Highway 46.
Storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water service installation will continue to Walnut Avenue. Paving operations will extend to Buche Foods, with sidewalk installation to follow roadway improvements.
Motorists are reminded to use caution in the work zone. A 15 mph speed limit is in effect in the school zone when children are present. Flashing beacons have been temporarily removed and are scheduled for replacement.
Completed work from April 15, 2026, to May 15, 2026: The contractor made significant progress on the south side of South Dakota Highway 46 from Grant Avenue to the west city limits. Work included installation of temporary sidewalk, refreshed pavement striping, and implementation of traffic control. Asphalt, concrete, and base course were removed and processed for reuse on the project.
Storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water services were installed along West Avenue. Paving operations progressed to Main Avenue.
