Project Updates:
May 20, 2025:
April 15, 2025 – May 15, 2025, Completed Work: Construction began on April 28, 2025. The contractor constructed temporary road widening on the north side of Highway 46 for motorist to use during the first phase of the project. This widening consisted of setting up traffic control, protecting existing storm sewer from contaminants, clearing of trees and bushes, removal of existing sidewalk, curb and gutter, and grading. Crews also installed the discharge storm sewer pipe on the east side of town.
On May 5, 2025, the contractor had commercial asphalt pave the temporary road widening. Extensive traffic control was setup throughout the remainder of the week along with a temporary sidewalk. Traffic was moved to the north side of Highway 46 utilizing the new temporary widened road on May 15, 2025. An 11-foot width restriction was put in place for motorist traveling through the construction zone.
Anticipated work in May 15, 2025 – June 15, 2025: On the south side of Highway 46, starting on the east end of the city limits, removals of asphalt, concrete, and basecourse will begin to be recycled and reused on this project. The removals will be followed up with excavation, storm sewer pipe, and drop inlet box replacement.
May 14, 2025:
On Thursday, May 15, 2025, crews will begin shifting traffic into the north two lanes of S.D. Highway 46 in Wagner using the new temporary widened road. An 11-foot width restriction will be in place through the construction zone.
Motorists are reminded to follow the posted detour routes through Wagner on Highway 46. Residents living within the construction zone are asked to use extra caution when driving in the construction zone and to obey all flaggers and construction signs. Alternate routes should be utilized, if possible, to avoid delays. Pedestrians are asked to use the temporary sidewalks and crosswalks, and to stay out of the construction zone.
