Project Updates:

June 26, 2026:

As of Friday, June 26, 2026, the south side of the Euclid Avenue and Fourth Street intersection in Pierre is reopened. On Monday, June 29, 2026, the east leg of Euclid Avenue and Fourth Street intersection is scheduled to be closed until mid-July 2026.

Anticipated Work in July 2026

On Euclid Avenue (from Broadway Avenue through Elizabeth Street):

  • Curb and gutter and concrete fillets will be completed.

  • Two lifts of asphalt will be placed.

  • Luminaire poles will be installed and activated.

  • Sidewalk and driveway construction will be well underway.

  • By the end of July, this segment of roadway is anticipated to reopen to two-way traffic.

On Euclid Avenue (from Elizabeth Avenue to Fourth Street):

  • Traffic is expected to remain in a two-way configuration on the southbound lanes.

  • Utility pipe installation, curb and gutter placement, and other work will continue on the northbound lanes.

  • Asphalt paving is anticipated to begin, weather permitting.

  • Luminaire footings will be installed.

  • The east leg of the Fourth Street intersection will be closed for a storm sewer tie-in.

On Euclid Avenue (from Fourth Street north to the divided four-lane section north of Eighth Street):

  • Traffic will remain in a two-way configuration on the southbound lanes.

  • Base course, concrete fillets, and curb and gutter adjacent to the northbound lanes will be completed.

  • Two lifts of asphalt will be placed, weather permitting.

On Elizabeth Avenue (from Grand Avenue to Euclid Avenue):

  • Curb and gutter and two lifts of asphalt will be placed.

  • Street lighting will be installed.

  • By the end of July, this segment is anticipated to reopen to traffic.

  • Sidewalk and private approach construction will be underway.

Completed Work in June 2026

  • On Euclid Avenue (from Broadway Avenue through Elizabeth Street):

  • Base course was placed through First Street, compacted, and prepared for paving.

  • Curb and gutter and concrete fillets were completed through Oak Street.

  • The first of three 2-inch lifts of asphalt was placed on the mainline and side streets.

  • Luminaire and traffic signal footings, along with wiring conduit, were installed.

On Euclid Avenue (from Elizabeth Avenue to Fourth Street):

  • Traffic was shifted to a two-way configuration on the southbound lanes.

  • Pavement removal was completed on the northbound lanes, and storm sewer installation beneath the outside northbound lane was completed.

  • The City of Pierre adjusted water lines that conflicted with SDDOT storm sewer infrastructure.

  • The south side of Fourth Street was closed to through traffic June 15, 2026, to accommodate utility adjustments. The south leg of the intersection is anticipated to reopen during the week of June 29, 2026.

On Euclid Avenue (from Fourth Street north to the divided four-lane section north of Eighth Street):

  • Undercut excavation from Sixth Street to the north end of the project was completed.

  • Base course placement from Fourth Street to the north end of the project was underway.

  • On Elizabeth Avenue (from Grand Avenue to Euclid Avenue):

  • Storm sewer installation and base course placement were completed.

  • Forms were installed in preparation for curb and gutter placement.

June 10, 2026:

Beginning the week of June 15th, 2026, the south leg of the Euclid Avenue and Fourth Street intersection in Pierre will be closed for three weeks. The closure is to accommodate utility adjustments necessary for the Euclid Avenue reconstruction project. Commuters will need to utilize alternative routes during the closure.

Urban reconstruction, asphalt and concrete surfacing, storm sewer, lighting, signals, sanitary sewer and water main replacement.

  • U.S. Highway 14/83 (Euclid Avenue) – from Sioux Avenue intersection to the divided highway west of S.D. Highway 1804 in Pierre.​

  • Elizabeth Street (between Highway 14 and Grand Avenue).​

  • Wynoka Street drainage outfall.
