Project Summary:
The 49th Street Bridge over I-29 will receive a low slump concrete overlay, retrofit of concrete barriers, repairs to joints and approach slabs, concrete pavement work, and installation of new pedestrian railing.
Work is scheduled for 45 working days, or approximately nine weeks, from the actual start. 49th Street between Terry Avenue and Solberg Avenue will be closed during construction. There will be no official detour, but motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes. Pedestrian traffic will be allowed through the project area but will be detoured to opposite sides of the street as construction progresses.
The project is scheduled for final completion by Oct. 23, 2026.

Project Summary:
The project includes work on various ramps along I-229 at Louise Avenue, Western Avenue, Rice Street, and the I-229/I-90 interchange. Activities include cold milling of asphalt concrete, planing PCC pavement, asphalt concrete resurfacing, saw and seal of AC joints, partial depth patching, nonreinforced and continuously reinforced concrete repairs, membrane sealant for expansion joints, and new pavement markings.
Work is scheduled for seven working days per ramp, with traffic restrictions in place to maintain access: ramps at Louise Avenue and Western Avenue will not be closed concurrently, and both on-ramps or off-ramps at Louise, Western, or Rice Street will not be closed at the same time. Additionally, the SB Louise to NB I-229 ramp will not be closed concurrently with the NB Louise to NB I-229 ramp.
Any ramp closures required for the application of durable pavement markings will occur overnight between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. and will not count toward the working-day total.

June 9, 2026
The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) continues a multiple ramp repair project on Interstate 229 in the Sioux Falls area. Each of the projects originally consists of concrete patch repairs.
On Monday, June 15, 2026, an exit ramp project is scheduled to begin at Louise Avenue (exit 2) on I-229. Both the southbound off-ramp and on-ramp will be narrowed to complete the repair operations.
Duration of narrowed ramps will be approximately seven calendar days, then full ramp closures will be in place. Full ramp closures will then be placed for asphalt overlay, saw and sealing of joints, and temporary pavement markings. Full closure duration will be approximately eight calendar days The public is encouraged to use alternate routes during the exit ramp repair projects.

June 4, 2026 - 10th Street:
The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) is starting a ramp repair project on Interstate 229 in the Sioux Falls area. Each of the projects originally consists of concrete patch repairs. Full ramp closures will then be placed for asphalt overlay, saw and sealing of joints, and temporary pavement markings. The public is encouraged to use alternate routes during the exit ramp projects.
On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, an exit ramp project is scheduled to begin at 10th Street (exit 6) on I-229. Both the northbound off-ramp and on-ramp will be narrowed to complete the repair operations.
On Thursday, June 11, 2026, exit ramp closures will begin at the Western Avenue (exit 2) northbound off-ramp and at Interstate 229 to Minnehaha County Road 125/476th Avenue in Sioux Falls.
Duration of narrowed ramps will be approximately seven calendar days, then full ramp closures will be in place. Full closure duration will be approximately eight calendar days.

June 1, 2026 - Western Avenue:
Beginning Thursday, June 11, 2026, exit ramp closures will begin at the Western Avenue (exit 2) northbound off-ramp and at Interstate 229 to Minnehaha County Road 125/476th Avenue in Sioux Falls. The closures are expected to be in place for approximately eight calendar days.
The project includes milling existing surface, concrete patch repairs, asphalt overlay, saw-and-seal joint work, and temporary pavement markings.
Commuters are encouraged to utilize alternative routes.
The prime contractor for this $2.2 million project is Journey Group Companies of Sioux Falls, SD. The overall project completion date is Friday, Oct. 16, 2026.

Project Summary:
This project includes the placement of a median cable barrier and guardrail replacement, including guardrail embankment construction and surfacing. The project also includes relocating approximately five maintenance crossovers to accommodate the new barrier placement.
The work for this project will be performed under limited single lane closures only.
