S.D. Highway 38 East of Mitchell
Project Summary:
The project includes grading to the roadway for improved driving conditions and sight distance. Interim surfacing will be placed to provide a safe, drivable surface during construction.
Crews will modify the intersection to improve traffic flow and enhance safety. Pipe work will also be completed to improve drainage and reduce the risk of water collecting on the roadway.

Grading operations will begin at 421st Avenue and progress east. Pipe installation will begin and follow behind the grading operations.
Completed Work in June 2026:
The contractor closed S.D. Highway 38 to through traffic. Removal of the existing roadway surface began.
The contractor stripped topsoil along approximately 2 miles of the project, removed fencing throughout the project limits and began installing erosion control measures.
