S.D. Highway 38 East of Mitchell
Project Summary:
The project includes grading to the roadway for improved driving conditions and sight distance. Interim surfacing will be placed to provide a safe, drivable surface during construction.
Crews will modify the intersection to improve traffic flow and enhance safety. Pipe work will also be completed to improve drainage and reduce the risk of water collecting on the roadway.

July 24, 2026:
Anticipated Work in Aug. 2026: Grading will continue east from 422nd Ave. Pipe installation will begin within the first 3 miles of the grading operations. Salvaged gravel surfacing will be placed closely behind the grading operations.
Completed Work in July 2026: Existing gravel was salvaged, hauled to a stockpile site and processed. Initial grading and embankment construction were completed during the first mile of the project, from 421st to 422nd Ave.
