S.D. Highway 11 North of Brandon

S.D. Highway 11 North of Brandon Project Location Map

Project Summary:

The project will reconstruct approximately one and one-half miles of roadway, including replacing two bridges over West Pipestone Creek and Split Rock Creek.

The roadway will be raised approximately 10 to 12 feet through the low-lying valley to reduce flooding impacts and improve long-term reliability. Once complete, the new asphalt surface will provide a smoother ride for motorists and help reduce future maintenance needs.

Project FAQ's:

Is this stretch of road getting raised?
When will S.D. Highway 11 be fully closed?

Project Updates:

May 22, 2026:

Beginning Monday, June 1, 2026, S.D. Highway 11 will be closed from just north of 257th Street to 258th Street near Corson. During this phase of construction, the intersection of Highway 11 and 258th Street will remain open.

The signed detour route guides motorists to use 258th Street and 483rd Avenue. Alternate routes also include Interstate 90 exit 402 (Veterans Parkway) and exit 410 (Valley Springs). The closure is expected to remain in place until early summer 2027.

The project includes reconstruction of one and one-half miles of Highway 11. Grading operations will raise the roadway between six and 12 feet. The project also includes replacing two bridges, over West Pipestone Creek and over Split Rock Creek, and adding new asphalt surfacing throughout the project.

Anticipated Work - April 2026:

Contractor crews will continue grading outside the shoulders along S.D. Highway 11, County Highway 130 and 257th Street. Highway 11 and Highway 130 will remain open until after Monday, June 1, 2026, though drivers may see closures at the intersections of 257th Street and Palisade Street before that date.

Multiple utility companies are also working on relocations along Highway 11 and Highway 130.

In March 2026, the contractor began grading outside the shoulders and started hauling borrow material from pits near Knife River. Metal pipe culverts were installed in field approaches and driveways. Utility companies have been relocating gas, fiber and electrical lines.
