Webinar – Preparation for Winter Weather – Travel Resources
On Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. (CT), the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT), in conjunction with the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the National Weather Service (NWS), will host an online Pre‑Winter Travel Resource and Safety Webinar via Zoom. The virtual resource webinar will be open to all media, local and state agencies, as well as the general public.
During the webinar, information will be shared about the 2026–2027 winter weather forecast from the NWS. SDDOT and Highway Patrol staff will provide information about winter maintenance operations, safety tips, as well as the many resources available to travelers for informed travel decisions during winter weather.
“Winter after winter, SDDOT works to ensure South Dakota’s highways remain safe and accessible. The work we do supports everything from family travel to the movement of goods that sustain our economy,” said Operations Director, Craig Smith. “With continued enhancements to our winter alert tools and the SD511 system, drivers can stay informed with real‑time updates during changing weather conditions.”
SDDOT and HP will also discuss statewide winter travel tools and safety systems designed to advance safety during winter driving conditions.
