Watertown - U.S. Highway 212 from U.S. Highway 81 to 19th Street

Project Summary: 

The project will span from US 81 east to just east of 19^th St.

Full urban reconstruction project including Grading, Storm Sewer, Curb & Gutter, PCC Pavement, Sidewalk, Permanent Signing, Pavement Marking, Roadway Lighting, and Traffic Signals. Additionally, there are two tied utility projects: a new water main and a new sanitary sewer.  This project will widen the driving lanes by 1’ for safety.

Phase 1 from US 81 to 11^th St the entire US212 will be closed to traffic and a detour will be provided.  Phase 2 is from 11^th St to 19^th St and this portion will be completed with two-way traffic.

Dec. 9, 2022: The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) says that the project contractor, J&J Earthworks, Inc., reopened U.S. Highway 212 to traffic. Motorists should be aware that a westbound outside lane closure is in place between 17th Street and 11th Street until the remaining driveway tie-ins have been poured. This work is expected to be completed by next week and concludes work for the season on this project. Read the Full Release Here.

Nov. 3, 2022:The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) says that J&J Earthworks Inc. will begin placing center turn lane on U.S. Highway 212 between 14th and 19th Street East on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022. Read Full Release Here

Sept. 23, 2022: The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) says that the contractor, J & J Earthworks, Inc., will switch traffic to begin phase two (part B) on the U.S. Highway 212 construction project, between 14th Street East and 19th Street East on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022. Aug. 17, 2022: WATERTOWN, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) says that the contractor, J & J Earthworks, Inc., will open the remaining sections of phase one on U.S. Highway 212 to thru traffic west of 11^th Street East on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022.
