Project Updates:

May 15, 2025:

Due to recent rains, the gravel car detour on the U.S. Highway 212 grading project near Frankfort has been closed as of Thursday, May 15, 2025. While the gravel car detour closure is in place, motorists should utilize the truck detour route on S.D. Highway 37, S.D. Highway 28, and U.S. Highway 281.
The reopening of the gravel car detour will be weather dependent.

April 28, 2025 Press Release:

On Monday, May 5, 2025, U.S. Highway 212 will be closed from six miles east of Redfield heading east for five miles. The closure is needed for crews to complete grading and interim surfacing work in the area.

A signed detour route will be in place during the closure guiding passenger vehicles around the work zone via S.D. Highway 37, 392nd Avenue, and 179th Street. Truck traffic is required to use other state routes to bypass the work zone.

Grading operations are scheduled to be completed, and the road reopened to traffic by Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025.

---

The project was recently awarded to Midland Contracting. They are tentatively scheduled to begin work at the beginning of May 2025. The road will be closed to traffic at that time with a local car detour on gravel roads and trucks will be using State routes.
