Project Updates:
Sept. 19, 2025:
Aug. 15–Sept. 15, 2025 — Completed work: The contractor performed grading operations, material storage and concrete pipe culvert installations along U.S. Highway 212. Truck and passenger vehicle detours remain in place to allow this work. Motorists are reminded to follow posted detour signage for safety and to respect residents and landowners along the route.
Operations have moved to the western portion of U.S. Highway 212 near the James River bridge crossing. Drivers should expect varying road conditions when traveling to Fisher Grove State Park and nearby recreation areas.
Sept. 15–Oct. 15, 2025 — Anticipated work: Crews are expected to complete the remaining concrete and steel pipe culvert installations. Roadway grading and compaction will continue along the western portion of the U.S. Highway 212 closure. Drainage and grading operations will take place from the James River bridge crossing westward until material reclamation is complete.
Some areas require additional soil stabilization, but these improvements are not expected to alter the schedule. Work is anticipated to be completed by the end of October, weather permitting.

April 28, 2025 Press Release:
On Monday, May 5, 2025, U.S. Highway 212 will be closed from six miles east of Redfield heading east for five miles. The closure is needed for crews to complete grading and interim surfacing work in the area.
A signed detour route will be in place during the closure guiding passenger vehicles around the work zone via S.D. Highway 37, 392nd Avenue, and 179th Street. Truck traffic is required to use other state routes to bypass the work zone.
Grading operations are scheduled to be completed, and the road reopened to traffic by Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025.

The project was recently awarded to Midland Contracting. They are tentatively scheduled to begin work at the beginning of May 2025. The road will be closed to traffic at that time with a local car detour on gravel roads and trucks will be using State routes.
