Sept. 19, 2025:
Aug. 15, 2025 – Sept. 15, 2025, Completed Work:
Unclassified excavation continued at multiple locations north of the White River Bridge and at the location south of the White River Bridge. Base course removal and undercut work continued. The southern three miles of the project were graded, and new base course was laid. Additional RCP and CMP approach pipes were installed on both the north and south sides of the White River. All waterline tie-ins requiring temporary area water shutdowns were completed, and a final walkthrough confirmed all waterline work was finished. Erosion control measures were installed around the pipework. Priming and blotter sanding were completed on the southern three miles of the project.
Anticipated Work Sept. 15, 2025 – Oct. 15, 2025:
The contractor will continue unclassified excavation at multiple locations north of the White River Bridge and complete excavation south of the bridge. Removal of old base course and undercutting will continue. New base course and road grading will proceed northward. RCP pipe installation on the north end of the White River Bridge, along with CMP approach pipes, will be completed. Cover aggregate (chip sealing) will be applied to the southern three miles that received blotter sand and priming. Final ditch grading will continue to allow for permanent seeding and fence installation.

Sept. 2, 2025:
As of 8 a.m. MT/9 a.m. CT on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, S.D. Highway 73 has been reopened to traffic. On Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, Highway 73 was closed from Kadoka south due to muddy conditions.

Aug. 27, 2025:
July 15, 2025 – Aug. 15, 2025, Completed Work:
Unclassified excavation continued south of the White River bridge and in multiple locations to the north. Cold milling of asphalt progressed northbound from the White River. Base course removal and undercut operations continued, including extra undercut in mainline soft spots. Crews worked northward placing and grading new base course, with additional lifts placed on the mainline south of the White River. Installation of RCP pipe and CMP approach pipes continued on both sides of the bridge. The 5’ x 7’ cattle pass was completed on the south end. Waterline tie-ins began, with one remaining that will require a water shutdown.
Anticipated Work Aug. 15, 2025 – Sept. 15, 2025:
The contractor will continue unclassified excavation north of the White River bridge and complete excavation south of the bridge. Cold milling of asphalt on the north side of the river will continue, along with removal of old base course and undercut. Crews will place and grade new base course moving north. Additional RCP and CMP pipe installations are scheduled north of the bridge. The final waterline tie-in, requiring a shutdown, is scheduled for Aug. 19. Final ditch grading will continue to allow for permanent seeding and fence installation.
