Project Updates:
May 28, 2026:
Anticipated work in June 2026: The chain-link fencing in the SDDOT state yard will be replaced once the dirt and ditch work in that area is complete. Crews will finish the base course salvage layer and are scheduled to lay prime, blotter, and seal coat on the mainline road in early June to prepare for the later asphalt paving project. They will also complete touch‑up ditch work and minor dirt work and finish hauling dirt from the waste site. Remaining finishing tasks include seeding, erosion control measures, and fencing. The project remains on track for the June 19 completion date.
Completed work in May 2026: Both crews completed major dirt work, milling, and undercut operations. They finished all processing and backfilling and placed the base course salvage material back on the mainline. They continued to follow the mainline crew with finishing work, including seeding, erosion control measures, and fencing. Dates in early June have been set to lay prime and seal coat on the road in preparation for a later asphalt paving project.

April 27, 2026:
Anticipated work in May 2026: The contractor plans to continue operating two crews. One crew will continue working south from the junction of S.D. Highway 73 and S.D. Highway 248 to the South Dakota Department of Transportation state yard, while the second crew continues north from the midpoint of the project to meet at the state yard. Work activities will include dirt and ditch work, milling, and undercutting operations. Both crews also will continue processing, backfilling, and placing salvaged base course material on the roadway. Finishing work, including seeding, erosion control measures, and fencing installation, also is scheduled to continue. The contractor is working to schedule prime and seal coat operations in preparation for a future asphalt paving project. Chain-link fence replacement at the South Dakota Department of Transportation state yard is planned following completion of dirt and ditch work in the area.
Completed work in April 2026: The contractor completed milling and undercutting operations in the Kadoka area to the junction of S.D. Highway 73 and S.D. Highway 248. Processing, backfilling, and placement of salvaged base course material also were completed in that section. No businesses lost access, and no roadway closures were required during construction activities. Crews also continued working north from the midpoint of the project with dirt and ditch work, milling, and undercutting operations on the mainline grade. Processing, backfilling, and placement of salvaged base course material continued on the mainline. Seeding and erosion control measures continued on the south end of the project while progressing north. Chain-link fencing was removed from the South Dakota Department of Transportation state yard.
