Project Updates:

Oct. 27, 2025: 

Sept. 15, 2025 – Oct. 15, 2025, Completed Work:
The Contractor has completed all asphalt concrete work for the projects. Permanent pavement markings are complete from the Highway 49 intersection to the north end of the project. The Contractor continues to shape in-slopes and place topsoil on the in-slopes along the project. Permanent seeding, mulching and fertilizing work has begun on the north end of the project working south.  

Anticipated work Oct. 15, 2025 – Nov. 15, 2025:
The Contractor will complete the bump grinding and place the flush seal in the next 2 weeks. Permanent pavement markings will be completed south of the highway 49 intersection. In-slope shaping and topsoil placement will continue. Permanent seeding, mulching and fertilizing will continue from north to south. The Contractor will install new delineators and reset permanent signs as needed along the project.

Aug. 7, 2025: 

As of Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025,  S.D. Highway 47 from the junction with S.D. Highway  44 north to the Highway 49 junction will reopen to traffic. This section of Highway 47 was closed over the past month for the installation of a new precast box culvert. 

Work will continue on the project from the Highway 47/Highway 49 junction north toward Interstate 90. 

The prime contractor on this $21.2 million reconstruction project is Spencer Quarries Inc. from Spencer, SD. The overall project completion date is Friday, Nov. 14, 2025.
