S.D. Highway 10 - Bridge Replacement at Sand Lake

Project Summary:
This project consists of the replacement of bridge structure to improve water capacity over the James River (Sand Lake) on S.D Highway 10 west of Houghton.
Highway 10 will be closed to through traffic during the bridge replacement project.
Motorists should plan to use an alternative route. A signed detour route will be provided using U.S. Highway 281 and S.D. Highway 37.

July 22, 2025:
June 15, 2025 – July. 15, 2025, Completed Work: The contractor has received the majority of the steel girders and placed them. They have driven all of the interior bent piles and progressed to placing the concrete caps and grout pads. The demolished bridge and open channel will keep S.D. Highway 10 completely closed to traffic; follow detour directions in the link below.
Anticipated work July 15, 2025 – Aug. 15, 2025: The contractor intends to receive the rest of the steel girders and place them following the driving of abutment #2 H piles. The demolished bridge and open channel will keep S.D. Highway 10 completely closed to traffic; follow detour directions in the link below.
