S.D. Highway 10 - Bridge Replacement at Sand Lake

Project Summary:
This project consists of the replacement of bridge structure to improve water capacity over the James River (Sand Lake) on S.D Highway 10 west of Houghton.
Highway 10 will be closed to through traffic during the bridge replacement project.
Motorists should plan to use an alternative route. A signed detour route will be provided using U.S. Highway 281 and S.D. Highway 37.

April 15, 2025:
March 15, 2025 – April 15, 2025, Completed Work: The contractor has completed demolition of the west portion of the bridge deck and removed old piles. The contractor has also completed the sheet piling around the abutment # 1 area and completed sediment and erosion control protection. This allowed for completion of bent #2 test and bearing piles.
Anticipated work April 15, 2025 – May 15, 2025: The contractor intends to form and pour the bent #2 concrete piles cap which would support the bridge beams. They also intend to remove the center portion of the existing bridge and old piles to be able to drive the bent #3 piles. Bridge demolition will keep S.D. Highway 10 completely closed to traffic.
