Interstate 29 north and south - approximately ½ mile north of 26th Street over Skunk Creek, over 12th Street (exit 79), approximately ½ mile north of 12th Street over Ellis & Eastern Railroad.

May 30, 2025:

On Friday, June 6, 2025, a traffic switch is scheduled to move all traffic to the easternmost lanes of northbound Interstate 29 from exit 79 (12th Street) to the bridge over the Ellis and Eastern Railroad in Sioux Falls. Work will be conducted in the westernmost lanes of northbound I-29 structures over 12th Street and the railroad. 
 
This traffic configuration is anticipated to remain in place until mid-July. Upon the completion of the project, traffic will be restored to the traditional traffic configuration. 

May 20, 2025: 

April 15, 2025 – May 15, 2025, Completed Work: 

I-29 northbound bridge over Skunk Creek
- Low slump overlay completed on east half of the structure. 

I-29 northbound bridge over West 12th Street
- Bridge approaches complete on east half of structure. 
- Concrete paving complete on east half of structure. 

I-29 northbound bridge over Ellis & Eastern Railroad
- Bridge approaches complete on east half of structure.
- Concrete paving complete on east half of structure. 

I-29 southbound bridge over Skunk Creek
- Completed low slump on east half of structure. 

Anticipated work in May 15, 2025 – June 15, 2025 

I-29 northbound bridge over Skunk Creek
- Complete guardrail on east half of the structure.
- Complete bridge approach and concrete paving on east half of structure.
- Switch traffic control to east portion of the bridge and begin work on west half of the structure. 

I-29 northbound bridge over West 12th Street
- Complete barrier curb on east half of structure.
- Complete guardrail on east half of structure.
- Complete membrane seals on east half of structure. 
- Switch traffic control to east portion of the bridge and begin work on west half of the structure. 

I-29 northbound bridge over Ellis & Eastern Railroad 
- Complete guardrail on east half of structure.
- Complete barrier curb on east half of structure.
- Complete membrane seal on east half of structure.
- Switch traffic control to east portion of the bridge and begin work on west half of the structure. 

I-29 southbound bridge over Skunk Creek
- Complete bridge approaches on east half of structure.
- Complete concrete paving on east half of structure.

April 17, 2025: 

On Monday, April 21, 2025, work is scheduled to begin on the Interstate 29 southbound structure over Skunk Creek in Sioux Falls. On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, the east two lanes of southbound I-29 will be closed for crews to complete the work. Traffic on I-29 will be maintained in the west two lanes. Weather dependent, this traffic configuration is anticipated to be in place until Friday, June 13, 2025.

Once work is complete, traffic will be switched to the newly constructed east two lanes of I-29 at 26th Street. Work will then begin in the west two lanes at this location.

April 16, 2025 - Press Release: 

On Monday, April 21, 2025, work is scheduled to begin on the northbound structure on Interstate 29 over Skunk Creek in Sioux Falls. For this structure work, the northbound on-ramp at 26th Street will be closed as work is completed on the east two lanes of I-29. Traffic on I-29 will be maintained in the west two lanes. This traffic configuration and northbound on-ramp closure at 26th Street is anticipated to be in place until Friday, June 13, 2025.

Once work is complete, traffic will be switched to the newly constructed east two lanes on I-29 at 26th Street. Work will then begin in the west two lanes on I-29 at 26th Street.

April 2, 2025 - Press Release: 

On Monday, April 7, 2025, work will begin on the Interstate 29 northbound structures over 12th Street and the Ellis & Eastern Railroad tracks.

Traffic control will be in place closing the east two lanes. Traffic will be maintained on the two west lanes. This configuration will continue until Wednesday, May 21, 2025, when traffic will be switched to the newly constructed east lanes. Crews will then begin work on the adjacent two lanes on the west side.
