Canton - U.S. Highway 18 to Interstate 29

Project Summary:

Located east of Interstate 29 at exit 62, U.S. Highway 18 connects the city of Canton to Interstate 29 with a two-lane undivided rural highway. This stretch of Highway 18 has shown increased traffic volumes in which the current two-lane highway is reaching capacity. This eight-mile segment will be reconstructed with a four-lane divided highway to accommodate the increased traffic volumes. Additionally, this project includes the replacement of existing box culverts which are sized appropriately based on watershed information.

The project includes grading, curb and gutter, storm sewer, box culvert replacement, lighting, permanent signing, pavement marking, and surfacing.

June 23, 2025:

May 15, 2025 – June 15, 2025, Completed Work: The contractor has made progress with curb and gutter and is almost completed. Ditches have been reworked and seeded in front of residential areas and along the inslopes and backslopes. Shoulder work has begun for new asphalt shoulders. Also, fencing has progressed along the right of way on the project.

Anticipated work June 15, 2025 – July 15, 2025: Curb and gutter will be completed in the next month and colored concrete median work will begin. Shoulder paving for new asphalt will begin with plans to finish in the next month. Grading along the inslopes and backslopes will continue to finish grade. Fencing work will continue along the project.
