U.S. Highway 81 Lane Closure Scheduled Near Madison

MADISON, S.D. – Beginning on Monday, March 17, 2025, a lane closure will be placed on U.S. Highway 81 in Lake County near the city of Madison. The Highway 81 lane closure will be located 500 feet south of 225th Street. The closure is anticipated to be in effect for four weeks.

Stop signs will be installed on each end of the closed segment, motorists should be prepared for delays. Drivers are asked to be aware of construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes. Please lower speeds through the work zone.

This lane closure is part of a reconstruction project on Highway 81 from north of 9th Street NW in Madison to the Lake/Kingsbury/Brookings County line. 

The prime contractor for this $12.1 million project is Duininck, Inc. of Prinsburg, MN. The overall project completion date is Oct. 17, 2025.
