HURON, S.D. – On Monday, April 14, 2025, railroad crossing replacement work is scheduled to begin north of Market Street in Huron. Due to this work, S.D. Highway 37 (Dakota Avenue) will be closed from Market Street to Commercial Street for approximately two weeks. Upon completion of the crossing replacement, the contractor will begin to place storm sewer across Dakota Avenue at 2nd Street North. During the storm sewer project, Dakota Avenue will be closed from 3rd Street North to south of 2nd Street North. Dakota Avenue will remain open from Market Street to 2nd Street North during these operations.

The storm sewer project is anticipated to last an additional two weeks. A signed detour will be in place during the project directing motorists to 3rd Street South, Lincoln Avenue, and U.S. Highway 14. Traffic on Dakota Avenue will be fully restored once the project is complete.

The prime contractor for this $19 million project is BX Civil and Construction, Inc. of Dell Rapids, SD. The overall project completion date is October 2025.
