MITCHELL, S.D. – Beginning on Monday, April 14, 2025, traffic on S.D. Highway 37 will be detoured onto Minnesota Street and 23rd Avenue, north of Mitchell. This planned detour will be in effect for two weeks to allow for the completion of construction work at the Highway 37 Bypass and Main Street junction. While the Minnesota Street intersection will be modified to accommodate turning traffic during this planned detour, truck traffic should consider using an alternate route.

Motorists should be prepared for delays and a 12-foot width restriction through this area. Drivers are asked to be aware of construction workers, equipment, and to slow down through the work zone. This construction work is part of a larger project to reconstruct Highway 37 in Mitchell from Main Street to National Guard Road.

The prime contractor on this $32.3 million project is Michels Road & Stone Inc., of Brownsville, WI. The overall project completion date is November 2025.
