This project includes the modification of the median crossovers with a temporary structure in preparation for the 2025 interchange reconstruction. This project also includes the temporary widening of Interstate 229 northbound.

Nov. 7, 2024 - Press Release:
Project Update: Due to antcipated weather delays, the Interstate 229 northbound off-ramp (exit 4) at Cliff Avenue will remain closed through Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024.
Beginning on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, the Interstate 229 northbound off-ramp (exit 4) at Cliff Avenue will be closed. Weather dependent, the I-229 northbound off-ramp will be closed through Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024. Motorists should be prepared for delays and use alternate routes during peak travel times through the I-229 and Cliff Avenue construction project. Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce their speed while traveling through the area. Traffic control measures will continue to guide motorists around all closures.

Oct. 30, 2024:
Sept. 15, 2024 – Oct. 15, 2024, Completed Work: Concrete barriers and end protection have been installed near the northbound I-229 bridge and between the exit 4 northbound on-ramp and the exit 5 northbound off-ramp. Both of the abutments for the temporary bridge have been constructed. All areas have been seeded to the east of the I-229 northbound on-ramp. Crews have installed the launch system for the temporary bridge.
Anticipated work Oct. 15, 2024 – Nov. 15, 2024: The temporary bridge will be constructed and launched across Cliff Avenue in early November. Asphalt paving for the northbound diversion will take place on each side of the temporary bridge. Guardrail will be installed on each side of the I-229 northbound bridge and also between the diversion and the northbound on-ramp. Crews will install new signs for exit 4 and exit 5.

Sept. 30, 2024:
Aug. 15, 2024 – Sept. 15, 2024, Completed Work: The I-229 northbound on and offramps have been paved with asphalt. The outside shoulder north of the I-229 northbound on-ramp has been widened with new asphalt surfacing. Three new gravity block retaining walls have been constructed. Pile has been driven at the west abutment for the temporary bridge.
Anticipated work Sept. 15, 2024 – Oct. 15, 2024: Concrete barriers will be set up near the I-229 northbound bridge and along the outside shoulder from exit 4 to exit 5. Guardrail will be installed on each side of the I-229 northbound bridge and also between the diversion and the northbound on-ramp. All construction areas that were disturbed will be seeded for erosion control purposes. Abutments for the temporary bridge will be constructed on each side of Cliff Avenue. Crews will be working on assembling the temporary bridge and plan on setting it in early November.

Sept. 10, 2024 - Social Media:
On Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, the previously postponed lane closure in the northbound lane at Cliff Avenue between the Interstate 229 (exit 4) northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp in Sioux Falls will be placed. Crews will be installing a retaining wall for the I-229 temporary bridge. Weather dependent, the lane will be reopened on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.
Motorists should be prepared for delays and use alternate routes during peak travel times through the I-229 and Cliff Avenue construction project. Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce their speed while traveling through the area. Traffic control measures will continue to guide motorists around all closures.
