Interstate 90 Exit 46 Interchange - Piedmont

A reconstruction project on Interstate 90 at Piedmont (exit 46) began in mid-June 2026. Crews are currently building the new eastbound ramps at exit 46 and are also working along Elk Creek Road and Sturgis Road.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will hold a public informational meeting on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. MT for this reconstruction project. The informational meeting will be held in the old gymnasium at the Piedmont Valley Elementary School, located at 16159 N. 2nd St. in Piedmont. SDDOT and contractor staff will be in attendance to present the overall project scope and construction sequence, and to answer any questions from members of the public.

The project includes the full reconstruction of exit 46 and portions of Elk Creek Road and Sturgis Road in Piedmont. This is a multi-year project that will include new exit ramps, a new bridge over I- 90, elimination of an at-grade railroad crossing on Elk Creek Road by building a bridge over the railroad, replacement of drainage structures, and new concrete pavement on I-90 between exit 44 and mile marker 47.
