U.S. Highway 16A in Keystone

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) in collaboration with Complete Concrete, Inc. will hold a preconstruction informational meeting to discuss the bridge replacement project on U.S. Highway 16A in Keystone. The open house style informational meeting is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (MT) at Keystone Community Center, located at 1101 Madill St. in Keystone.

The informational meeting is designed to share project information and answer questions for members of the public including impacted residents, local businesses, and emergency service personnel. The bridge replacement project is scheduled to begin in October 2026.

Individuals needing assistance, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), should contact the SDDOT ADA Coordinator (605-773-3540) two business days prior to the meeting in order to ensure accommodations are available. For any in-person meeting, notice is further given to individuals with disabilities that the meeting is being held in a physically accessible location.

The primary purpose of the project is to replace the existing bridge with a box culvert. The bridge has reached the end of its expected service life. Additional work includes minor approach grading for the new structure, intersection improvements, surfacing, pavement markings, signals, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades and erosion control. Pedestrian facilities will be improved to accommodate pedestrians on both sides of the structure. A temporary restroom facility will be provided throughout construction.
