Project Updates:
Oct. 7, 2026:
Anticipated Work in Oct. 2026:
On Euclid Avenue (from Broadway Avenue thru Elizabeth Street):
Sidewalk and accesses will be completed on the west side of Euclid. The contractor should be nearly finished with red boulevard concrete and ADA ramps.
Boulevard grading and topsoil placement should be nearly complete on the west side of Euclid and on the side streets.
Traffic will remain in a two‑way configuration as the contractor uses the southbound outside through lane to conduct work behind the curb and gutter.
Traffic at Elizabeth Street is in a four‑way stop configuration. Traffic‑signal poles have been installed but will remain covered until they are needed.
On Euclid Avenue (from Elizabeth Avenue to 4th Street):
Weather permitting, base‑course placement, curb and gutter, fillets and asphalt surfacing will be completed in the southbound lanes.
Some intersections on the west side may be opened to traffic.
Traffic at Fourth Street is in a three‑way stop configuration with the west leg closed. Traffic‑signal poles have been installed but will remain covered until they are needed.
Traffic will remain in a two‑way configuration in the northbound lanes until the project is complete.
On Euclid Avenue (from 4th Street north to the divided four-lane north of 8th Street):
Weather permitting, base‑course placement, curb and gutter, fillets and asphalt surfacing will be completed in the southbound lanes.
Traffic will be shifted to a two‑way configuration in the center of Euclid to allow for curb‑and‑gutter placement adjacent to the northbound outside through lane. Once the curb and gutter are completed, sidewalk, topsoil and seeding work will begin on both sides of Euclid.
Traffic will no longer use the crossover north of 8th Street.
Elizabeth Avenue (From Grand Avenue to Euclid Avenue):
All sidewalk grading and approaches will be completed.

Completed Work in Sept. 2026:
On Euclid Avenue (from Broadway Avenue thru Elizabeth Street):
Sidewalk is completed on the east side. Contractor moved north to focus on driving surface prep and placement.
On Euclid Avenue (from Elizabeth Avenue to 4th Street):
Existing curb and gutter, asphalt surfacing, and basecourse were removed from the southbound lanes. Undercut was be completed. Storm sewer pipe placement was completed for this section and for the entirety of the project. Basecourse placement is near complete.
Fillet sections, Sidewalk placement, and ADA ramps were placed on the east side along with final surfacing.
Luminaire poles have been placed and are operational.
All intersections on the west side will be closed as work is done.
Traffic will remain in a two-way configuration in the northbound lanes until completion of the project.
On Euclid Avenue (from 4th Street north to the divided four-lane north of 8th Street):
Pavement removal, curb and gutter removal, undercut, pipe placement, and basecourse placement are near complete in the southbound lanes. Curb and gutter has been completed from 5th street north the end of the project.
Fillet placement is near complete on the west side.
Luminaire placement is underway.
Traffic will remain in a two-way configuration in the northbound lanes until completion of the project.
Elizabeth Avenue (From Grand Avenue to Euclid Avenue):
No work in September.

Sept. 25, 2026:
The week of Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, the temporary pedestrian crossing at 5th Street and Euclid Avenue will move back to 4th Street and Euclid Avenue. Pedestrian signs will also be placed at 4th Street. Crossing guards will be present when school children are utilizing the intersection.
North of 5th Street traffic will also shift to a two-way configuration in the newly constructed southbound lanes to accommodate continued construction of the northbound lanes.
Sept. 24, 2026:
Paving operations have begun and are expected to continue until Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, on Euclid Avenue in Pierre. Side streets, including 6th Street, 7th Street, and 8th Street, will open and close for paving.

Sept. 3, 3036:
Beginning the morning of Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, the pedestrian crossing at 4th Street and Euclid Avenue will temporarily move to 5th Street and Euclid Avenue in Pierre.
The estimated three-week temporary move of the pedestrian crossing is necessary while the west side of the 4th Street and Euclid Avenue intersection is reconstructed.
Pedestrian signs and a crosswalk will be placed at 5th Street. Crossing guards will be present when school children are utilizing the intersection in the mornings and afternoons.
Commuters should reduce their speed when traveling through the work zone and be alert for pedestrians, construction workers, and construction equipment.

Sidewalk and access work is expected to be completed on both sides of Euclid Avenue. The contractor anticipates finishing red boulevard concrete and ADA ramp installation. Boulevard grading and topsoil placement should be nearly complete on Euclid and the side streets.
Traffic will remain in a two‑way configuration as the contractor uses the outside through lanes to complete work behind the curb and gutter.
Crosswalk markings have been placed, and permanent pavement markings are installed south of Elizabeth Street.
Traffic at Elizabeth Street will remain a four‑way stop. Traffic signal poles have been installed but will stay covered until they are activated.
Euclid Avenue (Elizabeth Avenue to Fourth Street)
Contractors will remove existing curb and gutter, asphalt surfacing and base course from the southbound lanes. Undercutting will be completed, storm sewer pipe will be installed, and new base course will be placed.
All intersections on the west side will be closed as work progresses.
Traffic will remain in a two‑way configuration in the northbound lanes until the project is complete.
Euclid Avenue (Fourth Street to the divided four‑lane north of Eighth Street)
Pavement removal, curb and gutter removal, undercut, pipe installation and base course placement will be completed in the southbound lanes. Some curb and gutter work will also be completed.
Traffic will remain in a two‑way configuration in the northbound lanes until the project is complete.
Elizabeth Avenue (Grand Avenue to Euclid Avenue)
Sidewalk grading and approach work will be completed.
Completed Work in Aug. 2026:
Euclid Avenue (Broadway Avenue to Elizabeth Street)
Work continues on the east side of Euclid Avenue. Nearly all sidewalks and accesses have been completed, and the contractor is placing red boulevard concrete and ADA ramps. Boulevard grading and topsoil placement are also nearly complete. All luminaires have been installed.
Traffic is currently in a two‑way configuration, with the contractor using the outside through lanes to complete work behind the curb and gutter.

Euclid Avenue (Elizabeth Avenue to Fourth Street)
Curb and gutter, asphalt surfacing and approaches have been placed for the northbound lanes. Traffic has been shifted from a two‑way configuration in the southbound lanes to a two‑way configuration in the northbound lanes. Luminaire poles have been installed.
On the east leg of Fourth Street, base course, curb and gutter, fillets, asphalt surfacing and signal poles have been installed, and the east leg has reopened. The west leg of Fourth Street is now closed.
The contractor has begun removing asphalt surfacing and base course in the southbound lanes.
Traffic will remain in a two‑way configuration in the northbound lanes until the project is complete.
Euclid Avenue (Fourth Street to the divided four‑lane north of Eighth Street)
Two lifts of asphalt have been placed on the base course for the new northbound lanes. Traffic has been shifted to a two‑way configuration in the northbound lanes while the contractor removes asphalt surfacing and base course in the southbound lanes. Undercutting has also been completed.
Traffic will remain in a two‑way configuration in the northbound lanes until the project is complete.
Elizabeth Avenue (Grand Avenue to Euclid Avenue)
Elizabeth Avenue is now open to traffic. The contractor is nearing completion of sidewalk, lighting and access work. Grading behind the curb is underway.

Aug. 27, 2026:
From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug.30, 2026, the traffic signals at the intersection of U.S. Highway 14 (Sioux Avenue) and S.D. Highway 1889 (Pierre Street) will be temporarily turned off while a new traffic signal cabinet is installed.
Traffic Impacts:
While the signals are inactive, east/west traffic on Sioux Avenue will continue through the intersection without needing to stop.
Southbound commuters utilizing Pierre Street will only be able to turn right onto Sioux Avenue after stopping at a temporary stop sign.
Commuters should proceed through the work zone at low speeds and be attentive for construction workers and equipment. Minimal delay is anticipated.
