U.S. Highway 281 from Wolsey to Redfield Project Location Map

Project Summary:

The project includes milling the existing roadway and placing a new asphalt concrete overlay to provide a smoother ride for motorists. Shoulders will also be resurfaced to improve safety and provide additional recovery space for drivers.

Crews will modify the intersection to enhance traffic flow and improve safety. Lighting upgrades will increase visibility in low-light conditions. Pipe work will improve drainage, helping prevent water buildup and extending the life of the roadway.

June 29, 2026:

Anticipated Work in July 2026:

Work on the 192nd Street turning lanes will continue into early July and will include placement of the base lift of asphalt.

Construction will then shift to the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and S.D. Highway 26, where additional turning lanes will be installed. This work is anticipated to begin in early July and be completed by the third week of the month.

In late July, traffic control and equipment staging will shift to support milling and asphalt overlay operations between Wolsey and the intersection of U.S. Highway 14 and U.S. Highway 281, south of S.D. Highway 28.

Completed Work in June 2026:

Traffic control, signing and construction activities began for new turning lanes on the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 281 at the intersection with Spink County Road 8 (192nd Street).
