U.S. Highway 281 South of Aberdeen
Project Summary:
The project includes placing a (LSDC)-Low Slump Dense Concrete overlay on the bridge deck to strengthen and protect the surface while improving ride quality.
Crews will also replace the approach slabs and resurface the approach pavement to provide a smoother transition on and off the bridge.
Project Updates:
June 15, 2026:
Anticipated work in July 2026: Work will take place on the southbound and northbound twin bridges at mile marker 187.6. Crews will finish work on both bridges, including guardrail installation, shoulder work and paving. Traffic will be shifted on the same two bridges to the opposite lanes with barrier and traffic control in place. Once the shift is complete, crews will begin removing guardrail, milling the deck, performing deck repairs, overlaying the decks, and removing and replacing the approach slabs.
Completed work in June 2026: Southbound and northbound twin bridges at Mile Marker 187.6 — drainage improvements, sleeper slabs, approach slabs, and new PCCP pavement have been completed on both sides of each bridge.

Completed work in May 2026: A single-lane closure was in place. Crews set barriers, removed guardrails, milled bridge decks, placed deck overlays, and removed approach slabs.
