Project Updates:

May 22, 2026:

Anticipated work in June 2026: The remaining two miles of S.D. Highway 25 between 156th Street and 154th Street is anticipated to be regraded, shaped and all pipe installations will be completed. Erosion controls, seeding and finishing operations will continue from the south to north beginning at S.D. Highway 20. Interim surfacing is anticipated to be installed on the remaining gravel areas one mile south and four miles north of Highway 20. Upon completion of this grading project, contract 09VF will be scheduled for late July or early Aug. which will be the final asphalt surfacing of the entire ten miles from 164th Street to 154th Street.

Completed Work in April 2026: The first six miles of S.D. Highway 25 north of 164th Street to S.D. Highway. 20 have been regraded with the interim surface applied to five of the six miles. Highway 25 north of Highway 20 remains closed to all traffic as the remaining two miles from 156th Street to 154th Street is underway with regrading operations and pipe installation.

April 29, 2026:

Anticipated Work for May 2026: Grading will continue on the remaining two miles of S.D. Highway 25 north of S.D. Highway 20. Work includes installation of new pipe culverts, roadway shaping, and embankment grading.

Completed Work in April 2026: Erosion control and other finishing items were installed on six miles of S.D. Highway 25 south of S.D. Highway 20. Interim paving has been installed on all but the remaining mile of this segment. Grading operations have begun on S.D. Highway 25 north of S.D. Highway 20, which remains closed to traffic.

April 15, 2026 - Press Release: 

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, crews will begin grading work on S.D. Highway 25 from S.D. Highway 20 north for approximately four miles. The grading work will require this four-mile section of Highway 25 to be closed to all through traffic.

The closure is anticipated to be in place until Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026. All truck traffic is required to use State highways to detour around the closure. Truck traffic detour routes includes Highway 20, Interstate 29, and U.S. Highway 12. No truck traffic will be permitted on 437th Avenue (Codington County Road 27) or 155th Street during the closure.

A passenger vehicle detour will also be provided using Highway 20, 437th Avenue (Codington County Road 27), and 155th Street.
