May 8, 2025 - Press Release:
HURON, S.D. – On Friday, May 9, 2025, the contractor will be working on utility work completion and placing storm sewer across Dakota Avenue at 2nd Street North. While the work is underway, Dakota Avenue will be closed from 3rd Street North to south of 2nd Street North. Dakota Avenue will remain open from Market Street to just south of 2nd Street North. This work is anticipated to last approximately two weeks. Traffic on Dakota Avenue will be fully restored once the utility and storm sewer operations are complete.
A signed detour will be in place during these operations directing motorists to use 3rd Street South, Lincoln Avenue, and U.S. Highway 14.

April 30, 2025:
S.D. Highway 37 (Dakota Avenue) is currently closed from Market Street to Commercial Street. This closure is in place for railroad crossing replacement and utility work.
Dakota Avenue will remain open from Commercial Street to U.S. Highway 14.
A signed detour will be in place during the project directing motorists to 3rd Street South, Lincoln Avenue, and Highway 14.
It’s anticipated that Dakota Avenue will be reopened to traffic by mid-May.

March 15, 2025 – April 15, 2025, Completed Work: Dakota Avenue was closed from 9th Street to 7th Street with a detour on Kansas Avenue. Traffic from Market Street to U.S. Highway 14 has been moved to a two-way configuration on the east side of Dakota Avenue. The contractor has begun concrete removals on the west side. Construction of the streetscape items from Market Street to 5th Street have resumed. They are currently working on the east side of Dakota Avenue.
A truck detour has been set up on 21st Street, West Park Avenue, and Highway 14. No trucks are allowed on Dakota Avenue or the car detour on Kansas Avenue.
Anticipated work in April 15, 2025 – May 15, 2025: The contractor will be working on water lines, storm sewer, grading, street scape, and concrete placement.

On Monday, April 14, 2025, railroad crossing replacement work is scheduled to begin north of Market Street in Huron. Due to this work, S.D. Highway 37 (Dakota Avenue) will be closed from Market Street to Commercial Street for approximately two weeks. Upon completion of the crossing replacement, the contractor will begin to place storm sewer across Dakota Avenue at 2nd Street North. During the storm sewer project, Dakota Avenue will be closed from 3rd Street North to south of 2nd Street North. Dakota Avenue will remain open from Market Street to 2nd Street North during these operations.
The storm sewer project is anticipated to last an additional two weeks. A signed detour will be in place during the project directing motorists to 3rd Street South, Lincoln Avenue, and U.S. Highway 14. Traffic on Dakota Avenue will be fully restored once the project is complete.

March 18, 2024 - Press Release:
On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, work will resume on the S.D. Highway 37 (Dakota Avenue) reconstruction project through Huron. The median on Dakota Avenue between U.S. Highway 14 and 3rd Street North will be removed to allow for temporary traffic operations.
On Monday, March 31, 2025, a road closure will be placed on Highway 37 in both directions from 7th Street South to 9th Street South. Traffic will be diverted by detours. Also at that time, traffic will be moved to a two-way configuration on the east side of Dakota Avenue from Market Avenue to Highway 14 allowing construction to begin on the west side of the road. The ongoing street scape project on Dakota Avenue is also scheduled to begin on Monday, March 31, 2025.
