SDDOT Earns Performance Excellence Network (PEN) Excellence Award

The Performance Excellence Network (PEN), a regional Baldrige-based program serving South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota, recently recognized 18 recipients across multiple organizations with 2025 Performance Excellence Awards at the annual conference. The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) was one of the recipients; and the only organization to earn the Excellence Award designation – the highest recognition level awarded by PEN.

National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is a nationwide campaign held each spring to encourage drivers to stay alert, reduce distractions, and use extra caution when traveling through road construction areas.

Move Over Law - July 1, 2025

South Dakota’s updated Move Over Law became effective as of Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The updated law now applies to all vehicles occupying the shoulder using amber, yellow, or blue warning lights.

Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI)

The LaCrosse Street Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) in Rapid City and the 41st Street DDI in Sioux Falls were designed to enhance safety and address future travel needs in high volume intersections within two communities experiencing population growth. The DDI design improves safety by reducing vehicle conflict points.
