As construction season ramps up across South Dakota and the nation, it’s time for an important annual reminder: safety in work zones saves lives. National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is a nationwide campaign held each spring to encourage drivers to stay alert, reduce distractions, and use extra caution when traveling through road construction areas.
Move Over Law - July 1, 2025

South Dakota’s updated Move Over Law became effective as of Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The updated law now applies to all vehicles occupying the shoulder using amber, yellow, or blue warning lights.
Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI)

The LaCrosse Street Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) in Rapid City and the 41st Street DDI in Sioux Falls were designed to enhance safety and address future travel needs in high volume intersections within two communities experiencing population growth. The DDI design improves safety by reducing vehicle conflict points.
