Weekend Road Closure Scheduled for U.S. Highway 14A Near Broken Boot Gold Mine Southwest of Deadwood

DEADWOOD, S.D. – A weekend road closure is scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at 10 p.m. for pipe installation on U.S. Highway 14A at the Broken Boot Gold Mine southwest of Deadwood. The road is expected to reopen on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, at 6 a.m.

A signed over-width detour will be routed to U.S. Highway 85.

Following the road closure, paving operations over the new pipe will begin on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, with a single lane maintained with flaggers during daytime hours. During overnight hours, the roadway will be open to two-way traffic. The work is weather dependent and the expected completion date for the paving is Friday, Oct. 16, 2026. Two-way traffic operations will resume following completion of the paving until all the work is complete.

The prime contractor on the $550,000 project is Mainline Contracting, Inc. from Rapid City, SD. The project completion date is Friday, Oct. 30, 2026.
