PIERRE, S.D. – Weather dependent, on Monday, March 17, 2025, the newly constructed Missouri River Bridge located on U.S. Highways 14/83 between Fort Pierre and Pierre will be closed temporarily from 9 to 9:30 a.m. while the contractor utilizes shape charges for the removal of the girders on the original bridge structure.

All vehicular, pedestrian, and river traffic will be prohibited to enter the restricted area during the bridge girder removal process. Commuters should adjust their travel schedule across the bridge or plan an alternate route during the girder removal and bridge closure.

To meet safety protocols, everyone within the vicinity of the bridge during the girder removal process must be a minimum of 1,000 feet away on land or 1,500 feet away on water. A map showing the restricted viewing area for the March 17, 2025 girder removal is available here .

Please note that water craft and pedestrian passage under the structure may be limited for up to 24 hours after girder removal as the contractor clears the area.
