RAPID CITY, S.D. - The South Dakota Department of transportation says a signal pole at the intersection of Elk Vale Road (U.S.16B) and Concourse Drive was struck by a motorist early Saturday morning.
The pole and footing were damaged to the point that the pole had to be removed from service. The intersection has been operating as an all-way stop since that time.
Repair efforts are under-way and officials are working to have a temporary signal system in place by late Wednesday (Jan. 15) and will remain in service until repairs to or replacement of the footing can be made.
Motorists can expect to see lane closures in the westbound lanes during the temporary signal installation and should slow down and be aware of construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes.
No estimate of time is currently available for when the permanent signal system will be fully back in service.
