BERESFORD, S.D. - Beginning on Monday, March 31, 2025, S.D. Highway 46 will be closed to through traffic from S.D. Highway 11 to 297th Street (Hudson Curve). This closure will be in place for the duration of the reconstruction project through November 2025.

Highway 46 from 297th Street (Hudson Curve) will be constructed in phases, and traffic will be maintained through the work zone utilizing temporary roadway widening and surfacing. The work from 297th Street (Hudson Curve) to the Iowa line is expected to take approximately three months. During this closure, motorists will be directed to the signed detour route on Highway 11, Lincoln County Highway 152 and Lincoln County Highway 143. Access to homes and property adjacent to the project will be maintained for local traffic.

Construction work to be completed during the second year of this two-year project includes full roadway grading from Highway 11 to the Iowa line, replacement of the four remaining structures, interim surfacing, and new signing.

The prime contractor for the $24.9 million project is Foothills Contracting of Webster, SD. The overall completion date for the project is Nov. 21, 2025. A separate project for final paving and surfacing is scheduled for 2026.
