RESCHEDULED: Closure Scheduled on S.D. Highway 11 Near Canton for Railroad Crossing Improvement Project
UPDATE: The planned S.D. Highway 11 closure near Canton has been temporarily postponed. The railroad crossing improvement project is rescheduled for the week of Monday, Sept. 28, 2026. Additional information about the closure and detour will be shared ahead of the new closure date.

CANTON, S.D. – Beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, a closure is scheduled on S.D. Highway 11 near Canton for replacement of the railroad crossing one-half mile north of U.S. Highway 18. Weather dependent, the railroad crossing improvements are anticipated to be complete and Highway 11 reopened by late afternoon on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026.
Traffic Detour Options:
There will be signed detours on Highway 11 and Highway 18 directing traffic to use Lincoln County Highway 116 west to S.D. Highway 115 or east to Lincoln County Highway 135.
