Multiple Pavement Repair Projects Scheduled to Begin in the Southern Black Hills

HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – On Monday, May 12, 2025, multiple pavement repair projects are scheduled to begin on various highways in the southern Black Hills. Motorists should be aware of lane closures in place for the pavement repair work.

Repair work is scheduled on U.S. Highway 18 at Edgemont and also one mile west of the Maverick Junction. The Edgemont area repair project will be complete within four weeks. At the Edgemont location, a temporary traffic signal will be used in addition to flaggers and a pilot car to guide travelers through the work zone. The Highway 18 project at Maverick Junction will be complete within six weeks.

Repair work is also scheduled on U.S. Highway 385 at Oelrichs. The Highway 385 project is anticipated to be complete within four weeks. 

Once the first three repair projects are complete, the contractor will then move to other area projects. Additional scheduled pavement repair projects include Highway 18 north of Oelrichs to Maverick Junction, S.D. Highway 79 south of Hermosa to Buffalo Gap, Highway 385 south of Custer to Wind Cave National Park’s north entrance, and U.S. Highway 16 west of Keystone.

Interstate Improvement, Inc. of Faribault, MN is the prime contractor on this $3.3 million project. The overall project completion date is July 2025.
