Closure Scheduled on S.D. Highway 38 for Bridge Approach Replacement Project Near Mitchell

MITCHELL, S.D. – On Monday, March 31, 2025, a bridge approach slab replacement project is scheduled to begin over the James River and Firesteel Creek Bridges on S.D. Highway 38 east of Mitchell. Highway 38 will be closed to through traffic during the project from East 1st Avenue to 413th Avenue (Riverside Road).
Motorists should plan to use an alternative route during the approach slab replacement project. A signed detour route will be provided using Interstate 90. Highway 38 is expected to be closed until mid-July.
The prime contractor for this $6.3 million project is Journey Group Companies of Sioux Falls, SD. The overall project completion date is Oct. 24, 2025.
