Closure Planned on S. D. Highway 204 (Across Oahe Dam) for Controlled Burn Northwest of Pierre

PIERRE, S.D. –On Monday, April 7, 2025, S.D. Highway 204, across the Oahe Dam northwest of Pierre, will be closed as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) administers a controlled burn of vegetation on the face of the Dam. The planned closure of Highway 204 will go into effect at approximately 12 p.m. (noon) CT. It is anticipated that Highway 204 will reopen to traffic by 5 p.m. (CT) that same day.
The USACE will place traffic control personnel on S.D. Highway 1806 and Highway 204 to direct commuters to Power House Road, which will serve as the detour route while the controlled burn is underway.
Motorists should be aware that a 14-foot width restriction with be in effect for Power House Road on Monday, April 7, 2025.
