Winter Fun Awaits With Annual Snowplow Naming Contest Read More: What You Need To Know About South Dakota's Snowplow Contest - KCCR

It's hard to believe that we're already thinking about snowstorms, but I guess living where we do, it's not that unusual. After all, people always mention that major Halloween blizzard in 1991.

So, along with snow comes snowplows, and now is the time to get in on the 6th Annual South Dakota Department of Transportation Snowplow Naming Contest. Through December 12, you're encouraged to submit your most clever plow names. Dakota News Now is reporting that on average, the South Dakota DOT will receive 700 entries.

Those entries come from classrooms, businesses, and residents across our state. You can enter as many times as you like on the South Dakota Department of Transportation website. Once the contest ends on December 12, SDDOT staff members will pick their favorites, and in January, they'll pick a winner from each of the twelve geographic areas of South Dakota.

To give you some idea of what people came up with in past years, here are a few names:

  • Plowabunga
  • Clear-A-Patha
  • Albert Icestein
  • Fast & Flurrious
  • Hans Snowlo
  • Catch My Drifts
  • Blade of Glory

As part of the contest, SDDOT also creates snowplow and winter driving awareness coloring sheets, crossword puzzles, and word finds for families and classrooms that you can download from their website.
