KELO: SDDOT seeking transportation alternative ideas
Ideas and programs that provide transportation alternatives is open for funding requests by the South Dakota Department of Transportation.
SDDOT is accepting letters of intent for the Transportation Alternatives (TA) program.
TA is a program that uses federal transportation money for project that can include a variety of smaller-scale non-motorized transportation projects such as pedestrian and bicycle facilities, recreational trails and safe routes to school projects. The projects can also be community improvements such as historic preservation and vegetation management, and environmental mitigation related to storm water and habitat connectivity.
SDDOT said about $8 million is available. Projects may be limited to $600,000 but that depends on the annual funding allowance. The minimum is $50,000 for infrastructure projects. A non-infrastructure project has no minimum requirement.
The program funding must be matched. The minimum local match is 18.05%.

The letter of intent form deadline is July 15.
On‐site meetings with project sponsors will be scheduled before, Aug. 15. The deadline for full applications Oct. 1.
