Snow is expected to hit South Dakota hard this weekend.

With state tournaments happening all over the state this weekend, the South Dakota Department of Transportation is asking people to plan ahead if they travel.

They said possible road closures could occur all over the state.

IT’s recommended that everyone who isn’t traveling to stay indoors while crews work.

“If you do get out there and you do get stuck in those conditions, it’s going to make it more challenging for us to clear the road, potentially create some difficult conditions not only for drivers who get stuck, but just for our staff trying to be out there with plows. And others with highway patrol, law enforcement, that has to deal with those conditions,” said SDDOT Director of Operations Craig Smith.

In preparation for the weather, the Sioux Falls School District is sending students home with devices in case of a remote learning day on Monday.

The plan is to have classes in person, but the district will notify parents if the plan changes.
