Dakota News Now: SDDOT facing off against NDDOT in Blizzard Bracket snowplow naming contest
South Dakota snow plows are heading into a different kind of showdown.
The Department of Transportation is bringing back its popular Blizzard Bracket with North Dakota, where the public votes on the best snowplow name.
More than 70,000 votes were cast in the first blizzard bracket, and organizers hope this year’s matchup will bring even more attention to winter safety while also having a little fun.
“That’s probably been funnest thing, to see how much kids and schools and classes have got involved in plow naming, and how much fun they’ve had with it. Particularly when their plow gets chosen to get named. It’s just great to see the smiles on the kids’ faces,” said SD DOT Director of Operations Craig Smith.
Voting begins Saturday and continues through early April as the bracket narrows to one champion.
South Dakota’s ‘Thaw Patrol’ took the title in last year’s competition.
