This winter, kids from across the state took part in the DOT’s Snowplow Naming Contest, where they put their creativity into overdrive.

12 winners were recently named, including a second grader from Harrisburg, who took home top honors for the Sioux Falls region.

Today, he got to see it up close.

Nolan Allen’s “Frost Force One” now joins a fleet of cleverly named plows across the state.

“I didn’t think I would win. So, I’m really excited,” said Allen. “If I see it ever, I’m going to be like, that’s me, I named that truck.”

And there’s no shortage of imagination. Other winners include “Iceorilla” in Aberdeen, “Sleddy Roosevelt” in Custer, and “Whiteout Warrior” in Mobridge.

The DOT says the contest isn’t just fun - it’s a way to teach winter driving safety, and every entry helps highlight the important work of keeping South Dakota roads clear.
