Walworth County - S.D. Highway 47 Grading from Jct. U.S. Highway 212

Project Summary:

This 14-mile project involves the complete reconstruction of S.D. Highway 47 including the replacement of the narrow bridge (four miles north of the S.D. Highway 20 junction) with a box culvert.  Installation of a box culvert at this location will eliminate the narrow bridge crossing and eliminate the need for any guardrail. This once narrow highway with no shoulders, upon completion, will have two 12-foot driving lanes along with 6-foot shoulders.  The new grade line will provide travelers with improved sight distance, flatter in-slopes, and wider ditches that will allow for more snow storage capacity.

Location: S.D. Highway 47 from Jct. S.D. Highway 20 west of Hoven to Jct. U.S. Highway 12 in Walworth County.

Project Timeline:

April 24, 2023- Spring 2024

The driving lanes will be a gravel/oil blotter surface until it is ultimately surfaced with asphalt pavement (under a separate contract) in 2024.
