Office of Bridge Design

The SDDOT is responsible for the approximately 1800 bridges on the State Trunk System. This responsibility includes the hydraulic and structural design and plans preparation for new bridges, large culverts, and other highway related structures. It also includes analysis, rating, overload analysis, oversight for condition inspection, and design of rehabilitation plans for existing structures and construction engineering support services for all bridges and structure projects on the State Trunk System. In addition, DOT provides technical design guidance, and construction engineering support services for the approximately 4000 bridges that are on the local government and county systems in South Dakota.
