Strong Spring Storm Causing Difficult Driving Conditions across South Dakota

PIERRE, S.D. – The combination of accumulating snow, precipitation refreezing on roadways, and strong winds is causing snow-packed and ice-covered roads along Interstates 90 and 29 throughout South Dakota this evening, Monday, March 25, 2024. The South Dakota Highway Patrol has reported an increasing number of crashes throughout the day due to the icy roads, strong winds, and motorists overdriving conditions.

Snow-packed and ice-covered roads are expected impacts with this storm through Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

Drivers are also cautioned that driving conditions on secondary highways are also difficult due to this prolonged winter storm system. If you must travel, please increase following distance, don’t use cruise control, slow down, and wear a seat belt!
