PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will continue progress on the reconstruction of U.S. Highway 212 in Gettysburg. Work on the project includes grading, storm sewer, curb and gutter, sidewalk, lighting, and PCC pavement. The work will be completed in seven phases scheduled over two construction seasons.  With the first construction season substantially completed, the contractor has finished concrete work east of Mannston Street. Weather dependent, the remaining concrete work will begin this week or next.

A 10-ft width restriction will be in effect during the 2022 construction season. Equipment wider than the 10 ft. will be instructed to use alternate routes. Access for businesses along the project will be maintained. Signage will be placed to help direct traffic to various destinations in Gettysburg.

The contractor will continue to hold weekly meetings in the 212 Mini Mall Café located at 113 West Garfield Ave. every Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.

The contractor will be progressing West of Mannston Street with storm sewer placement, geotextile fabric, granular material, and concrete placement. The contractor will carry two-way traffic while prepping adjacent for storm sewer, granular material, and concrete placement. The contractor will periodically close the intersection of Mannston Street and U.S. Highway 212 to place concrete in the intersection.

The traveling public should be aware of the signing on the project in order to safely traverse through the construction zones. As the work is completed in various areas, it is likely that the work zones will change to safely guide traffic. Minimal additional work will be done east of the Mannston Street intersection and travel should be mostly unimpeded.

The prime contractor on the $12.9 million project is Reede Construction, Inc. of Aberdeen, SD. The contractor anticipates completing the remaining work by the end of August, with an overall project completion date of Oct. 28, 2022.
