CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN ON HIGHWAY 42

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Starting Monday, April 13, the South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin construction on Highway 42 from just west of 453rd Avenue to 469th Avenue (Tea/Ellis Road) in Sioux Falls. 

Highway 42 will remain open to traffic during the construction of the project with drivers being directed with the use of flaggers and a pilot car. 

The $10.2 million project will resurface 13.3 miles of Highway 42 and an additional three miles of shoulders for a total length of 16.3 miles. 

Work includes cold milling asphalt pavement, asphalt surfacing, and construction of turn lanes at 456th, 459th, 462nd, 463rd, and 466th Avenues. 

Motorists are asked to be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lanes. 

The prime contractor for this project is Knife River Corporation of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. 

The field work completion date for this project is Nov. 20, 2020.
