Sioux Falls - S.D. Highway 42 and Six Mile Road Intersection
Project Complete
Commuter Route Information:
- Arrowhead Parkway will remain open to one lane in each direction for most of the construction project.
- Six Mile Road will be closed for approximately 2 months during the summer of 2022. Traffic will be detoured to Veterans Parkway.
- Arrowhead Parkway will be closed east of Six Mile Road for approximately 3 months in late summer or early fall 2022. Traffic will be detoured to 26th Street.
- Arrowhead Parkway will be closed west of Six Mile Road for approximately 1 week to build the transition between the new and old alignment of Arrowhead Parkway. The schedule for this closure has not yet been determined.
Project Summary:
This project will reconstruct and widen Arrowhead Parkway from E. 10th Street to the Willow Run Golf Course entrance, and also reconstruct, widen, and realign Six Mile Road to cross Arrowhead Parkway at a safer angle. Improvements include new water main, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, street lights, traffic signals, curb and gutter, and concrete surfacing.

Arrowhead Parkway will have two lanes paved and open to traffic by November 23, 2022.
Arrowhead Parkway will have all the lanes paved and open to traffic by August 11, 2023.
Roadway lighting, traffic signal system, sidewalk and installation of trees and plants will be completed by the project's overall completion date of September 29, 2023.

July Completed Work: The contractor has installed streetlights throughout the project. They have planted trees and shrubs. They are cleaning the project.
Anticipated Work in August: The contractor will seed and install mulch.

June 30, 2023:
June Completed Work: The contractor has completed placing concrete pavement and asphalt surfacing for this project. They are installing sidewalks throughout the project.
Anticipated Work in July: The contractor will continue to place topsoil throughout the project. They will install landscaping and streetlights throughout the project.

May 30, 2023:
May Completed Work: The contractor has placed concrete pavement for the driving lanes from E. 10th Street to Willow Run Golf Course.
Anticipated Work in June: The contractor plans to have all of the concrete paving including turn lanes completed this month.

May 16, 2023:
On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, the Highway 42 (Arrowhead Parkway) and Six Mile Road intersection will be fully reopened to traffic.
The project is scheduled for completion by the end of August 2023.

May 1, 2023:
April Completed Work: Contractor has completed storm sewer installations on the project.
Anticipated work in May: Grading Contractor is grading on SD Hwy 42 from Six Mile Road to Willow Run Golf Course. Grading Contractor will be working on the SD Hwy 42 Frontage Road from Six Mile Road to East 10th Street. Contractors will be placing gravel on SD Hwy 42 and begin paving the Eastbound lanes from Six Mile Road to the East end of the project by Willow Run Golf Course.

April 25, 2023: On Friday, April 28, 2023, the intersection at S.D. Highway 42 (Arrowhead Parkway) will be closed to southbound Six Mile Road traffic.
