HIGHWAY 12 CULVERT WORK

MCLAUGHLIN, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says construction work on Highway 12 from approximately one mile west of the Grand River to 1.5 miles west of Mclaughlin will begin Monday, April 20, 2020. 

Culvert work will start and Monday and will include removing and resetting 18 culvert end sections and filling and abandoning a cattle pass. 

The culvert work will be off the road so traffic should not be impacted, but travelers are asked to reduced speed and pay extra attention when passing through the work zone. 

Future phases of work on the project will include:

  • Sidewalk repairs at the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 63 in McLaughlin
  • Guardrail and bridge approach replacement on the bridge five miles east of McLaughlin

The final phase of the project is planned for mid-August and includes milling and overlaying the asphalt pavement, installing rumble strips and pavement marking. 

The prime contractor on this $5.7 million project is Bituminous Paving, Inc. of Ortonville, Minnesota. 

The completion date for this project is Nov. 13, 2020.
