CENTERVILLE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says reconstruction of the Highway 46 bridge west of Beresford will begin on Jan. 6, 2020.

Contractors will be reconstructing the bridge as part of the larger shoulder widening project from the Highway 19/19A junction to Beresford. Work includes grading the embankment, replacing pipe culverts, reconstructing box culverts and a bridge, placement of an interim surface, and permanent roadway signing.

The roadway will be closed to thru traffic beginning Jan. 6, pending favorable weather, between the junction of Highway 19/19A and 463rd Ave. Drivers will be directed to the detour on Highway 19, Highway 18, and Interstate 29. Access to Highway 46 west of Beresford will be maintained for local traffic but there will be no thru traffic allowed.

Runge Enterprises, Inc. of Sioux Falls, is the prime contractor on this $14 million project.

Work on the grading and shouldering portion of the project is expected to begin in the spring and the overall completion date for the project is November 2020.
